Preserving natural resources and lowering environmental footprint is important to hummel. We believe in the concept of a circular economy within fashion and in the idea of using and re-using the same materials and fibers again and again without them losing their value.
The future in fashion is circular. Instead of constantly creating new fibers from raw material, we need to work towards reusing fibers from recycled products to create new yarns.
Our aim is to work with our suppliers to create new products from post-consumer garments. To do so, we need to rethink our entire design process and at the very beginning prepare our products for recyclability at the end of their life. This involves our choice of materials, the ease in which a product can be dissembled etc. It’s a new playing field for us, but we are up to the challenge and have started incorporating the circular design principles into the way we work. As part of our efforts to ‘close the loop’, we are also taking part in a large industry-wide research project with regards to the recycling of fibers from post-consumer garments.
